For many years, we worked directly with cooperatives in western Ethiopia because it was the only way to buy traceable coffee. Recently, the coffee buying rules changed in Ethiopia and it has become possible to have traceable coffee from many more producers. Our travels in Ethiopia have taken us South in recent years, to some of the legendary coffee regions: Yirgacheffe and Sidama and we came home dreaming of these floral and crisp flavors... Enter Ethiopia Karamo!
Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo began Daye Bensa, their private coffee farm and washing station in 2006 in the Sidama region of southern Ethiopia. In addition to their own coffees, they buy cherry from nearby villages and this gem is from Keramo, a neighboring village that's lowest elevation is over 2000 meters. The apricot, mango and black tea reflect a classic, lovingly processed heirloom cup profile that the Dukamo brothers have gone to great lengths to certify organic. Our friend, Tom Owens from Coffee Shrub, sent this beautiful coffee our way and we look forward to more collaborations in the future.
